A big thank you to the many people supporting the memorial project.
We are pleased to inform you that the fundraising campaign
for the memorial project in the ICRC’s "Jardin du Souvenir" (Garden of Remembrance) in Geneva has now concluded.
Fundraising Results
Thanks to your generosity, we have reached a total of CHF 164,082.08, broken down as follows:
- CHF 44,082.08 – contributions from members of our association, former and current ICRC staff, as well as families and loved ones;
- CHF 120,000.00 – contributions from public institutions and foundations.
The entire amount will be transferred to the ICRC by the end of October, in accordance with the established plan.
Project Overview
As a reminder, the total estimated cost was CHF 185,000, covering:
- the design and fabrication of the artwork (selection of materials, cutting, and engraving of names);
- the technical design and on-site installation of the structure;
- the landscape design and development of the garden, which is an integral part of the artwork.
Acknowledgments
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to each and every one of you who participated in this collective effort. Your commitment has made it possible to raise nearly 90% of the required budget. This achievement reflects a profound sense of solidarity with those who gave their lives in service to the ICRC’s mission.
Project Progress
We will keep you updated on the next stages of the project, particularly regarding the installation of the artwork. To date, a prototype has been completed, and foundation work is underway.

The Artwork
Conceived by artist Sophie Guyot, the work will take the form of a constellation of polished steel star-shards—mirrors bearing the names of fallen colleagues, engraved in transparency, suspended and held together by rods above a small stream. Sophie Guyot is not only an internationally acclaimed artist but also spent part of her youth working at the ICRC.
- A powerful symbol: each shard represents an individual, their commitment, and their now indelible bond with the ICRC’s mission.
- A place of memory and unity: this space will allow families, colleagues, and future generations to remember and pay homage.
- A collective project: this memorial arose from a need expressed by current and former ICRC employees and bereaved loved ones.

The creation and installation of a memorial in the heart of the Garden of Remembrance at the ICRC headquarters in Geneva
Our ICRC Alumni Association supports and promotes the creation and installation of a memorial in the heart of the Garden of Remembrance at the ICRC headquarters in Geneva. This significant, artistic installation will pay tribute to colleagues who lost their lives in the service of the ICRC. The complete installation is part of a broader project to redesign the garden as a place of reflection, recognition, and remembrance. In a later phase, the demolished chalets will make way for a pavilion capable of hosting events.
